How to Fix the Rune Multiplayer Server List

If your game does not load the multiplayer server list (Master Server Failed error), follow the steps below to fix it:

  1. Quick and Easy Fix
  2. Manual Fix

The original Rune masterserver provided by GameSpy was shut down in 2014. Since then it has been replaced by a new community masterserver hosted by 333Networks. If your in-game server list is not loading, it is most likely still trying to reach the old GameSpy masterserver instead of the new masterserver.

Quick and Easy Fix:

This will directly connect you to a Rune community server and will update your game's masterserver setting if it's using a dead or broken one.

  1. Start the game and open the in-game console. (The key to open console will be either ~, Ö, or ^, depending on your keyboard language.)
  2. Paste the command below for your version of Rune in the in-game console. If you are using Rune Classic the game will relaunch first. Wait until the downloads complete and once you've succesfully joined the server your multiplayer server list should be working again!

Rune Gold:

open rune://81.169.237.168:5600

Rune Classic:

relaunch rune://81.169.237.168:5600 -VERS=107

Manual Fix:

In the Rune/System/ folder, open Rune.ini in a text editor. Make the following edits to the file:

Under Config Section: [IpServer.UdpServerUplink]
Find Text: MasterServerAddress=master.gamespy.com
Replace With: MasterServerAddress=master.333networks.com

Under Config Section: [Engine.GameEngine]
Find Text: MasterServerAddress=master.gamespy.com
Replace With: MasterServerAddress=master.333networks.com

Under Config Section: [UBrowserAll]
Find Text: MasterServerAddress=master0.gamespy.com
Replace With: MasterServerAddress=master.333networks.com
